2007 - Paul Stanley (KISS) had to leave a concert due to his pulse being twice the normal level. The band performed as a trio with Gene Simmons singing all songs. 

2007 - The Simpsons Movie debuts, where Green Day sink into Lake Springfield.

2001 - Leon Wilkeson (bass guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd) dies in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, from chronic liver and lung disease at age 49.

1994 - Bob Seger serves jury duty in Michigan and, as the foreman in a criminal trial, finds the defendant guilty.

1987 - Rick Astley's first single, "Never Gonna Give You Up," is released in America. 

1986 - Nancy Wilson (of Heart) marries screenwriter Cameron Crowe at her sister Ann's home.

1986 -  Queen became the first act since Louis Armstrong to play in Budapest, Hungary. 

1984 - Metallica release their second album, Ride The Lightning, via Megaforce Records. It is reissued a short time later when they sign to Elektra Records.

1984 - Prince's movie, "Purple Rain," opened in the U.S. 

1981-  Stevie Nicks’ first solo album, "Bella Donna," was released. 

1979 - Alice Cooper's Indian art store in Scottsdale, Arizona was hit by a firebomb. 

1976 - Tina Turner files for a divorce from Ike. 

1976 - John Lennon ends his four-year fight to stay in the US as a special government hearing grants him a green card (Number A-17-597-321).

1976 - Bruce Springsteen sues his manager Mike Appel for fraud and mismanagement. Appel counter-sues, and the legal action keeps Springsteen from recording for about 15 months, a time Springsteen spends touring. The case eventually settles out of court.

1973 - Thousands of people hit Watkins Glen, New York, for the "Summer Jam" one day before the music festival is scheduled to begin.

1968 - The Who's single "Magic Bus" was released in the U.S. 

1958 - A study by Esso Oil (formerly Standard Oil, eventually Exxon) finds that drivers speed more and therefore waste more gas when listening to the new fad of rock-and-roll music.
