2008 - Charlie Daniels is inducted into the Grand Ole Opry by Marty Stuartand Connie Smith.

2000 - Tourism officials in Liverpool were prevented from erecting signs saying 'Liverpool, the Birthplace Of The Beatles', because the Highways Agency thought the signs would be a distraction to motorists. 

1994 - The Ninth Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies are held in New York City. Inductees include The Animals, The Band, Duane Eddy, The Grateful Dead, Elton John, John Lennon, Bob Marley, and Rod Stewart. Axl Rose performs "Come Together" at the ceremony with Bruce Springsteen - it is Axl's last public appearance until 1998.

1993 - An inaugural concert is held in Landover, Maryland to honor President-elect Bill Clinton. 

1991 - Three people were crushed to death at an AC/DC concert in Salt Lake City by people who rushed the stage. 

1981 - Styx released the album "Paradise Theater." 

1977 - Charlie Daniels and The Marshall Tucker Band perform at President Jimmy Carter's inauguration ceremonies.

1976 - The Beatles turned down an offer of $30 million to play together again on the same stage.

1974 - There was a 9 mile long traffic jam at two Miami shows featuring Bob Dylan and The Band.

1971 - Alan Passaro, a member of the Hells Angels biker gang who stabbed 18-year-old Meredith Hunter to death at a The Rolling Stones concert at was acquitted of murder after 17 days of testimony.

1971 - The Beatles' "Helter Skelter" is played at Charles Manson's murder trial as evidence. Manson claimed the song was about an impending race war, and led to murderous acts.

1970 - The Easy Rider soundtrack, featuring "Born To Be Wild," "If 6 Was 9" and "Ballad of Easy Rider," is certified Gold.

1967 - The Beatles record "A Day In The Life."

1949 - Robert Palmer is born in Batley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England.

1943 - Janis Joplin is born in Port Arthur, Texas.
